1) My Lists Are My Reminder (Anonymous)

Tell us a little about yourself?

Single, 24, guy, masturbation

Tell us about your struggle with acting out and what led you to seek transformation?

Couldn’t go a week without relapsing for years. I realized that it was destroying my self-esteem and my relationship with God.

What were some of your low moments along the way?

Not being able to serve in a church responsibility because I was an addict.

What are some of the things that have helped you the most on your healing journey?

Being honest with my father and bishop helped hold me accountable. I made a list of the feelings I had when I acted out, as well as a list of feelings I experienced when I was strong and resisted for a longer period of time. I looked at those lists EVERY DAY and they reminded me that the stimulus was not worth it.

What words can you offer those who are reading your story and feel stuck?

Surrender to God the aspects of your life which you’ve lost control and of. Have others in your life hold you accountable. You are never lost until you truly give up hope.

2) I Objectified My Friends (Anonymous)

Tell us a little about yourself?

Single male, age 20, struggled with porn for the past 10 years.

Tell us about your struggle with acting out and what led you to seek transformation?

I realized how much it hurt myself and others. I hate that I am not as strong as I wish I was.

What were some of your low moments along the way?

Definitely when I started looking at some of my best friends who were girls in objective ways, and when they started to notice I was looking at them in such demeaning ways.

What are some of the things that have helped you the most on your healing journey?

Therapy with a counselor, but I haven’t had a session with him in a few years.
BEING IN A SMALL GROUP was probably the single most helpful thing.

What words can you offer those who are reading your story and feel stuck?

Get with other guys who want to quit. They need to know the struggle, but they also need to know that you can make it out. rTribe is one of the coolest apps I’ve found for this. The distress call feature is really nice.

3) I Cheat and My Wife Cheats (B.)

Tell us a little about yourself?

Married, male, 30 yrs old, Porn, masturbation, anonymous hookup

Tell us about your struggle with acting out and what led you to seek transformation?

I am male with same-sex attraction, but I’m married to a woman. I struggled with porn and masturbation on and off throughout my marriage, but recently acted out with men on 2 separate occasions. My wife is also a sex addict, whom I’ve caught in her 3rd affair. This affair led me to seek help, as I reached an all time low.

What were some of your low moments along the way?

Looking at porn for hours on end and not telling my wife. Acting out in a steam room with another guy and group of guys on 2 separate occasions.

What are some of the things that have helped you the most on your healing journey?

–  Rigorous honesty

–  Bethesda Workshop Healing for Men

–  12 Step Groups

–  Recovery Books

What words can you offer those who are reading your story and feel stuck?

You definitely need a recovery plan in place that entails multiple efforts: counseling, 12 step groups, porn blockers, accountability, reading recovery material and rigorous honesty.
